Team Guam delivered an impressive performance at the 2026 World Freshwater Spearfishing Championships held in Lake Taupō, New Zealand, competing against some of the world’s top divers in a two-day international event.
The six-member team, made up of three pairs, showcased skill and determination across multiple divisions.
Leading the way, the men’s team of Michael Genereux and Barneby Acfalle secured 3rd place in their division and 5th overall, marking Guam’s strongest finish in the competition.
The second men’s team, Chase Weir and Joseph Cummings, also delivered a solid performance, finishing 7th in the men’s division.
In the mixed division, Carmela Tyquiengco and Robert John Koss placed 7th, rounding out a competitive showing for Guam across all categories.
The results highlight Team Guam’s growing presence on the international stage, with all three teams placing within the top tiers of their respective divisions against elite global competitors.
