The University of Guam recognized six employees who have gone above and beyond" their roles, and contributions to the university during its inaugural Outstanding Employee Award Recognition ceremony held Sept. 25 at the Dr. Lucio Tan Student Success Center.
The recipients were identified in three categories.
For Faculty, Ernesto Guades, associate professor of civil engineering, first quarter; and Dr. Maria Claret Ruane, professor of economics, second quarter.
For Staff, the university recognized Paul Yamanaka, extension associate II with the College of Natural & Applied Sciences, first quarter; and Lorenzo Eduvala, protocol and Board liaison officer and acting director of EEO, Title IX, and ADA coordinator, second quarter.
For Supervisors, Marlena Pangelinan, vice provost for institutional effectiveness was selected first quarter; and Janet B. San Nicolas, program coordinator III with Enrollment Management & Student Success, second quarter.
The recipients were selected by a committee which includes faculty, staff, administrators and students. According to UOG, each recipient will receive $500, a certificate of appreciation and other prizes.
“The strength of the University of Guam comes from our people and their commitment to our students, one another, and the communities we serve,” Anita Borja Enriquez, UOG President said. “Through the Triton Outstanding Employee Award, we celebrate employees who demonstrate excellence in their work and embody the spirit of Inadåhi yan Inagofli’e — respect, compassion, and community.”
The university said recognizing its employees for outstanding work supports Tulos Mo'na Strategic Pillar 3, to enrich the employee experience and create a positive work environment.
