Guam Delegate James Moylan recently held separate meetings focused on expanding air service to Guam and strengthening regional partnerships in the Indo-Pacific.
In talks with American Airlines, Moylan met with Amy Lawrence, the carrier’s senior manager for global government affairs, to discuss the possibility of future service to Guam. According to information released by his office, discussions centered on industry conditions influencing route expansion, including passenger demand forecasts and aircraft availability.
American Airlines indicated there are no specific regulatory barriers preventing entry into the Guam market. However, the airline cited current demand levels and fleet constraints as challenges to launching new long-haul routes at this time. Moylan and his team said they will continue outreach to other carriers, including Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, as those airlines evaluate potential expansion into Asian markets.
In a separate engagement, Moylan met with a delegation from Vietnam’s National Assembly to discuss Indo-Pacific security and regional cooperation. The delegation included Major General Nguyen Quoc Hung, vice chair of Vietnam’s Committee for National Defense, Security and Foreign Affairs, along with several members of legislative committees focused on culture, law, economics and public oversight.
Discussions covered developments in the South China Sea, concerns over illegal fishing and efforts to strengthen the U.S.–Vietnam strategic partnership. Moylan’s office said the meetings reflect ongoing engagement with regional partners on issues affecting security, economic cooperation and stability across the Indo-Pacific.
The meetings are part of the congressman’s broader efforts to address Guam’s connectivity needs and its strategic role in the region.
