The Guam Department of Labor is partnering with DFS Guam to host a job fair aimed at helping employees transition into new employment as the retailer prepares to shut down operations at the end of March.
The job fair is scheduled for March 6 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the DFS Galleria San Vitores Room and will feature 27 employers from various industries offering potential job opportunities for affected workers and their partners.
DFS Guam announced in November 2025 that it would permanently close operations on March 31, 2026, prompting workforce assistance efforts from the labor department.
Through its Rapid Response Program, GDOL has been working with DFS Guam’s human resources team to help impacted employees prepare for new opportunities. Services include résumé development, interview preparation, job matching, and referrals to training programs under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.
“The goal is to ensure that these workers experience as smooth a transition as possible,” said Gerard A. Toves. “By bringing employers directly to them, we are increasing the likelihood that they can move into new jobs without any interruption in income.”
DFS Guam Human Resources Director Catherine Tigulo Galsim said the collaboration with the labor department has been critical in supporting employees during the transition.
“Our collaboration with GDOL has been an exceptional partnership, and we are grateful for their rapid response program, which has provided crucial support for our employees,” Galsim said. “It is DFS’ top priority to support our people through the transition and empower them for their future careers.”
She added that the participation of businesses willing to hire displaced workers has been “invaluable.”
