The Office of Guam Homeland Security and Office of Civil Defense is urging residents to prepare for possible heavy rain and gusty winds as a tropical disturbance develops southwest of Guam.
According to the National Weather Service Guam Weather Forecast Office, Invest 95W at 5:15 p.m. was located north-northwest of Yap and is expected to strengthen into a tropical depression as it moves northeast.
Forecasters say the system could track through or near the Mariana Islands in the coming days.
Officials warn that periods of heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms are possible over the next 48 to 72 hours. Wind gusts could reach 35 to 45 mph, while sustained winds may range from 20 to 30 mph.
Rainfall totals between 2 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts, are possible from Wednesday through Thursday night, officials said.
Emergency officials are advising residents and visitors to take precautions, particularly those living in flood-prone areas. Authorities recommend clearing drainage areas and storm drains, avoiding flooded roads, and staying informed on weather updates.
Drivers are also urged to use caution during heavy rain due to reduced visibility and slippery road conditions.
Officials emphasized the safety reminder: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown,” noting that just six inches of moving water can knock a person down and two feet can sweep a vehicle away.
