Governor Lou Leon Guerrero departed Guam this morning on a trade and investment mission to Taiwan focused on expanding opportunities in aviation, agriculture, tourism and cultural exchange.
The delegation includes key personnel from the Guam Visitors Bureau, Guam Economic Development Authority and Guam International Airport Authority.
According to the release, the team’s first meeting is scheduled with leadership from China Airlines shortly after arriving at Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei. Discussions are expected to center on airline partnerships and connectivity between Guam and Taiwan.
The delegation will also meet with representatives of Moss Creek Hydroponics, whose officials previously visited Guam to explore potential expansion opportunities. Hydroponic and vertical farming are rapidly growing industries in Taiwan and are considered high-tech sectors due to their reliance on science, technology, engineering and math fields.
The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio administration has identified STEM careers as a key component of its workforce development strategy, aligning with efforts to attract innovation-driven industries to Guam.
While in Taiwan, the group will travel to Kaohsiung, the country’s second-largest city and largest industrial port, with a population of approximately 2.7 million. Meetings there will coincide with a three-day program highlighting island cultures through music, markets and international exchanges. Japan, Thailand and the Philippines are among the participating countries.
The administration says the mission aims to strengthen economic ties, boost tourism, and position Guam as a strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific region.
