The diverse cultural heritage of the Micronesia region will take center stage at Ypao Beach during the 38th Guam Micronesia Island Fair this October.
The three-day event themed "The Tides and Traditions of Micronesia," according to the Guam Visitors Bureau is about connecting people, cultures and traditions by bringing together the sights, sounds, flavors and people of the Micronesia as it celebrates the diversity and unity of the region.
“We invite the entire community to walk through the fair and hear different languages, see traditional performances, taste foods from our neighboring islands and meet the people who keep these traditions going. It’s a wonderful reminder of how much we have in common, and an opportunity to celebrate each island’s story,” GVB President and CEO Regine Biscoe Lee said.
GVB positioned the event as an opportunity for residents and visitors to experience Micronesia in one place, highlighting that cultural practitioners will be sharing traditional knowledge with attendees.
“We want people to come out, spend the day at Ypao, enjoy the performances, try something new and take the time to talk to the people behind the cultures we’re celebrating. There’s a lot to discover, and we’re excited to welcome everyone,” GVB Director of Destination Development Ina Carillo said.
GVB said details about participating islands, entertainment, vendors, cultural activities and schedule will be announced as GMIF approaches.
For now, GVB encouraged the community to mark their calendars for the 38th Guam Micronesia Island Fair on Oct. 23-25 at the Gov. Joseph Flores Memorial Park, Ypao Beach in Tumon.
