The first-ever Guam International Dance Festival is set to bring global talent and cultural pride to the island from Dec. 5–7, featuring world-class judges, free workshops, and two days of competition.
Organizers announced an impressive lineup of judges for both the Contemporary and Cultural Dance categories. Viral Guam choreographer Brian Esperon, known for creating global dance trends, will help lead the Contemporary panel alongside local dance educator Cesar Medina, Fijian performing arts consultant Glenville Lord, and internationally traveled performer John J. Cortez.
The Cultural Dance panel will highlight traditional forms with judges including CHamoru-Cuban performer and scholar Ahtoy Juliana, along with diplomatic representatives from Japan, the Philippines, and Taiwan. Designer and cultural ambassador Leo Lorilla of the Philippines will also serve on the panel.
GVB President & CEO Régine Biscoe Lee said the festival’s inaugural judges bring “prestige and cultural depth” to the event, noting that the return of Guam-born Esperon and Juliana adds a special sense of pride.
The festival begins Dec. 5 with free workshops in Sinajana and at the Micronesia Mall, featuring Frank Rabon, Esperon, Juliana, and South Korean K-pop crew NPher.
The main competition opens Dec. 6 at the Sandcastle Guam at 10 a.m. Tickets are $10 online through Dec. 5 and $20 at the door. The final day, including the awards ceremony, will be held Dec. 7 at the Tumon Night Market at Pleasure Island starting at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free, followed by an after-party at Club Zoh.
