The F.B. Leon Guerrero Middle School community is home, according to the Guam Department of Education, which announced Wednesday that the campus is now in compliance with Phase 2 of its public health inspection.
Phase 2 covered the library, office space, cafeteria and classrooms. The successful inspections mean the school is permitted to reopen and students have returned to their own campus after being hosted at the Okkodo High School campus for several school years.
The milestone marks the end of double sessions and a long, bumpy road to refurbish the school and gain sanitary compliance.
"Our team didn't let the typhoons slow us down," Jimmy Pangelinan, facilities and maintenance manager for GDOE, said. "Our crews stayed focused and kept pushing to get FBLG back to a safe, compliant standard. Seeing our kids move back into their own school is what makes this work worth it."
The school is pending Phase 3 of inspections, which will cover the gym and additional classroom space. GDOE said, "Our crews are continuing the momentum toward a fully restored campus."
