Dozens of DFS Guam employees gathered outside the luxury retail store Tuesday, chanting “DFS, DFS,” as they marked the company’s closure on island, signaling what many described as the end of an era.
The Tumon storefront, long recognized for its high-end retail experience, has been a fixture in Guam’s tourism and shopping landscape for decades. While DFS has maintained a presence tied to a 55-year legacy, the Guam location itself has served the community since 1994.
Employees filled the sidewalk and entrance of the store on March 31, 2026, waving goodbye to a business that had become synonymous with luxury shopping for both residents and visitors.
The closure in Guam follows a series of shutdowns in other markets, including Saipan, Honolulu, Australia and Hong Kong, which were identified as underperforming.
According to a Nov. 19, 2025 report by The Moodie Davitt Report, the move is part of DFS’ broader global strategy to streamline operations.
“We are proud of our history in Guam and express our heartfelt gratitude to the Guam community, our customers and partners for their trust and support over the years,” DFS said in a statement published by the outlet.
The gathering in Tumon reflected both celebration and loss, as employees and supporters commemorated the store’s legacy and its impact on Guam’s retail and tourism sectors.
