Atos Jiu-Jitsu Guam has announced one of its largest and most diverse delegations to date for a rare multi-event International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation circuit taking place Nov. 28–30 in Takasaki, Gunma, Japan. The team will compete across four major championships, including the East Japan No-Gi and Gi International Opens, International Masters Asia, and the Asian Kids Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
The delegation spans youth, adult and Masters divisions, with more than 40 athletes representing Guam on an international stage. Competitors include Black Belt athletes Lloyd C. Cubacub, Timothy Jay DeJesus and Oscar Nemz Espinosa Ledesma, along with a robust Masters team and a large youth roster featuring athletes as young as five. Team leaders say the depth of the delegation reflects years of focused training and growth within the academy.
“Our team has poured their hearts into this camp,” said Professor Mike Carbullido. “Competing in the IBJJF East Japan Series is a meaningful moment for all of us… Our goal is simple: carry Guam with us, show our jiu-jitsu with pride, and compete with absolute heart.” Team manager Kristy Carbullido added that the delegation highlights the inclusivity of the sport. “Our youngest competitor is just five years old, and our oldest is approaching seventy — a powerful reminder that Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone,” she said.
The Guam Visitors Bureau, a longtime supporter of Atos Guam, issued a statement praising the team’s participation and its role in elevating Guam’s visibility abroad. “We extend our best wishes for success to all Guam competitors and remain confident that their demonstrated athletic excellence and Håfa Adai spirit will elevate our island’s profile,” said GVB President and CEO Régine Biscoe Lee.
