Actress, author and speaker Edwina Findley Dickerson encouraged students, educators and community members at the University of Guam to pursue their purpose through faith, service and perseverance during a campus appearance this week.
Speaking before an audience that included students, faculty and members of Guam’s media, Dickerson shared personal stories about overcoming rejection, embracing mentorship and remaining committed to her values while building a career in Hollywood.
Dickerson, known for her work in film and television, spoke candidly about turning down a major acting opportunity early in her career after refusing to sign a nudity clause that conflicted with her beliefs.
“It may take a little bit longer, but delayed is not denied,” she said. “The promise is the promise, and the promise will find you at the appointed time.”
The actress also discussed her recently released book, “The World Is Waiting for You,” which focuses on faith, manifestation and personal growth. Throughout the discussion, she encouraged attendees to identify what was holding them back and to pursue their goals despite fear or uncertainty.
“Sometimes we are the obstacle,” Dickerson said. “We rehearse the reasons why we can’t succeed instead of believing in what’s possible.”
During a question-and-answer session, Dickerson emphasized the importance of service and mentorship, telling aspiring journalists and young professionals that influence grows through helping others.
“Every huge opportunity that I’ve been granted started with some form of service,” she said.
UOG President Anita Borja Enriquez praised Dickerson for sharing a message grounded in resilience, courage and faith, describing her as “a missionary in Hollywood.”
Dickerson also reflected on visiting communities around Guam, saying she was inspired by the island’s resilience, generosity and determination.
“We don’t have to settle for the status quo,” she told attendees. “Your voice is powerful.”
