A total of 166 backpacks stocked with school supplies were donated through the "Pack to School" donation drive coordinated by Guam Summer Youth Employment Program (GSYEP) interns, the Guam State Clearing House and Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio.
The "Pack to School" project was a collaborative effort involving GovGuam departments and agencies who came together to donate the 166 backpacks for students and youth across the island.
"Backpacks were distributed through the Department of Youth Affairs (DYA) and its regional youth centers, the Department of Public Health and Social Services' emergency foster shelter and village mayors," a social media post on Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero's page said Aug. 14.
The governor's office shared pictures documenting the efforts of the GSYEP interns "behind the scenes," working to secure donations for youth in need, including getting up in front of a camera to urge the community to support the donation drive.
The donation drive also collected essential toiletries and feminine hygiene products for youth in DYA and Public Health. The governor's office said this ensures youth "have access to everyday necessities beyond the classroom."
