The Joint Information Center has designated Ypao Point as the official typhoon debris removal site. The site opens Thursday to island residents accepting only green waste and construction debris.
According to JIC Recovery Release No. 7, Ypao Point will only accept green waste to include trees, shrubs, branches, trunks, yard trimmings, grass clippings and leaves. The site will also accept construction debris to include lumber, plywood, gypsum board, glass, steel, corrugated tin and roofing.
“The site will be open for residents from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily to include weekends until Saturday, July 25,” the JIC release 7 said.
Household garbage, white goods, electronics, furniture, tires, cement, tiles, cars and biological and medical waste will not be accepted at the debris disposal site.
JIC recovery release No. 8 notes that for individuals without access to a truck to haul debris may obtain a permit from the Guam Fire Department to burn their green waste.
The Guam Solid Waste Authority has also resumed collections and transfer station operations with an adjusted schedule.
Trash collections have been adjusted by one day for example Tuesday, July 7 collections are scheduled for Wednesday, July 8 while July 8 has been rescheduled to July 9.
“Residential collections resume the regular schedule next Monday, July 13,” the JIC said.
Transfer stations are open and will operate through Monday, July 13.
“Transfer stations will be closed, as usual, next Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14-15, and resume regularly scheduled operations on Thursday, July 16. There is no ‘free’ disposal at transfer stations. Regular rates and rules for what waste will be accepted are in place,” the JIC release states.
