The Guam Police Department is investigating a four-vehicle crash involving a school bus that killed a 36-year-old man Monday near the GPA Dededo Combustion Turbine 1 and 2 on Route 1. The victim, identified as Joey T. Santiago Jr. of Yona, was pronounced dead at 3:42 p.m. by a GRMC nurse practitioner. He is the island’s 17th traffic fatality this year.
According to GPD, no students were inside the bus at the time of the crash. Santiago and an adult female were taken to GRMC, while another adult male was transported to NRMC for treatment. Guam Highway Patrol officers resumed control of the investigation at around 6 p.m. Monday.
As part of their follow-up, GPD's Highway Patrol will close both northbound and southbound lanes of Route 1 at the crash site starting at 2 p.m. Wednesday to photograph and map the area. Motorists are urged to expect delays and consider alternate routes.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police say no additional details are available at this time.
