A 28-year-old Yigo man accused of a string of armed robberies at gas stations across the island earlier this week has been formally charged with multiple felonies, according to court documents filed by the Office of the Attorney General.
Lucian Maratita George Jr. was arrested on Oct. 7 after a police pursuit ended in a crash in Upper Tumon. Prosecutors allege that George brandished a rifle during four separate robberies between Oct. 5 and Oct. 7 at the Dededo Shell, Circle K 76 in Tamuning, and Mobil stations in Tamuning and Maite. In one incident, police say he fired shots toward a cashier and stole a customer’s vehicle. Surveillance footage and public tips helped police identify him as the suspect.
George is charged with five counts of second-degree robbery, each carrying a special allegation of using a deadly weapon, along with theft of a motor vehicle, terrorizing, theft, reckless conduct, eluding police, and resisting arrest, according to the magistrate’s complaint. Prosecutors stated George had been released from prison just days before the alleged crime spree. The Attorney General’s Office has requested $100,000 cash bail, citing him as a danger to the community and noting his prior burglary conviction and multiple past arrests.
If convicted on all counts, George faces a potential sentence of 114 to 214 years in prison, court filings show. The Guam Police Department said the case remains under investigation and that additional charges may follow.
