Guam is making waves in maritime training as the Western Pacific Maritime Academy continues day 2 of it’s hands-on training with a cohort of students from the Guam Department of Labor American Job Center.
Twelve participants are undergoing intensive field experience at Guam facilities, including personal survival techniques in the Dededo pool on Monday and live fire fighting exercises at the GCA Trades Academy, Tuesday.
Captain Michael Bacher says the training covers maritime skills like water survival, life raft use, fire fighting, and first aid—preparing entry-level seafarers for careers earning $6,000 to $12,000 per month, all while keeping their residence on Guam.
