The Guam Waterworks Authority is preparing water and wastewater systems ahead of Tropical Storm Sinlaku, urging residents to conserve water and secure supplies as conditions worsen.
Crews are coordinating with the Guam Power Authority to ensure standby generators are fueled and operational at wells, pump stations and treatment plants, while boosting reservoir levels and staging water tankers for critical sites, including hospitals. Maintenance is underway to reduce flooding impacts, and crews are securing facilities and construction sites while adjusting staffing for storm response.
GWA is also working with the Guam Department of Education to support shelters. The Upper Tumon Customer Service Center will open Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
Residents are urged to:
Store water for sanitation and drinking (1–2 gallons per person per day)
Use clean, covered containers and keep water away from contaminants
Secure outdoor items that could damage water systems
Avoid non-essential water use to prevent system press
