Officials issued an urgent warning Monday to stay out of the water as Super Typhoon Sinlaku generated life-threatening surf conditions across the Marianas, while all Fresenius dialysis centers on Guam announced closures until further notice.
Guam and military installations remain in Condition of Readiness 2, with all non-essential government operations closed. U.S. Naval Hospital Guam has shifted to emergency services only.
Storm Update
As of 7 a.m., Sinlaku remained 310 miles east-southeast of Guam with maximum sustained winds of 180 mph, moving northwest at 9 mph. The typhoon threat for Guam has diminished with continued northward track shifts, though a Tropical Storm Warning and Typhoon Watch remain in effect. Tropical Storm-Force winds are expected tonight. Typhoon-Force winds are forecast to reach Rota, Tinian and Saipan Tuesday afternoon, with the storm’s center still projected near or over Tinian and Saipan.
Stay Out of the Water
A High Surf Warning is in effect through 6 p.m. Thursday, with breaking waves of 10 to 15 feet for Guam and 15 to 25 feet for Rota, Tinian and Saipan. A Coastal Flood Watch through Wednesday afternoon warns of inundation of 1 to 3 feet for Guam and 3 to 7 feet for Rota, Tinian and Saipan. Residents are urged to stay off jetties, piers and waterside infrastructure.
