The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office is tracking two tropical disturbances in the region that could bring increased rainfall and windy conditions to the Marianas early next week, according to the Offices of Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD).
The first system, identified as Invest 98W, is a weak but broad circulation developing in southeastern Yap State near 7 degrees north latitude and 144 degrees east longitude. The NWS reports that the system will bring heavy and gusty showers to Yap State and Palau over the next few days. However, no direct impacts are expected for the Marianas at this time.
A second system, currently spanning Pohnpei and Kosrae States, is anticipated to approach the Marianas between Monday and Wednesday. Forecast models suggest increased showers and breezy to possibly windy conditions during that period. NWS forecasters said they will continue to monitor the system’s development and any changes in its path.
GHS/OCD advised residents and visitors to prepare for the possibility of heavy rain and localized flooding. Those in flood-prone areas are urged to clear drainage areas and unblock storm drains, while motorists are reminded to drive cautiously, watch for low visibility, and reduce speed on wet roads.
