Two 16-year-old males escaped custody from the Department of Youth Affairs Youth Correctional Facility at about 12:40 p.m. Feb. 18 after climbing over barbed-wire fencing, according to officials.
During the incident, a DYA officer was injured while attempting to apprehend the youths and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Within two hours, the Guam Police Department apprehended one of the juveniles, while the search continued for the second escapee.
Officials said the remaining juvenile has been in custody since Sept. 4, 2024, on multiple charges including beyond control, burglary, criminal trespass, conspiracy to commit theft of property, theft of property and criminal mischief. Authorities described him as a 16-year-old CHamoru male, about 5 feet 4 inches tall and 148 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing a black polo shirt, black shorts and no footwear and has both a scar and a birthmark on the left side of his abdomen.
DYA officials said community safety and the well-being of the youths are priorities as the agency works with law enforcement to return the minor safely to custody. The agency urged anyone with information to contact DYA.
