Guam continued to endure Tropical Storm-Force conditions Tuesday afternoon as Super Typhoon Sinlaku passed north of the island, with sustained winds of 45 to 50 mph and gusts peaking at 75 to 76 mph recorded at the airport.
The National Weather Service warned that Tropical Storm-Force conditions will persist through midday Wednesday, urging residents to remain indoors until Condition of Readiness 4 is officially declared.
NWS Warning Coordination Meteorologist Landon Aydlett reports of conditions across the island. “The roads are littered with debris. Branches, limbs are falling off trees. There are some smaller trees that have fallen over,” Aydlett said.
Residents are reminded that venturing outside during these conditions is extremely dangerous. Flying debris driven by gusts of up to 76 mph poses life-threatening risks, and downed power lines remain a hazard across the island. Anyone who encounters a downed line should stay at least 30 feet away and report it immediately to GPA dispatch at (671) 475-1472/3/4.
Tropical Storm-Force winds of 39 mph or more are expected to continue across Guam through midday Wednesday before gradually subsiding.
Do not go outside until COR 4 is declared.
