The Tiyan High School campus received an "A" in the sanitary inspection required to reopen the facility, which was closed 54 days ago over health and safety violations. Details regarding the return of students to campus have not been finalized, according to education officials.
The Tiyan campus, which before its closure housed Tiyan High School and Simon Sanchez High School students, was inspected at 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to GDOE spokesperson Damen Michael Borja.
GDOE officials have said the closure of the Tiyan campus affected both school populations because, although they are separate schools, they share one facility and one sanitary permit.
Following the closure, an aggressive campaign involving GDOE and the school's building maintenance contractor, Core Tech International, worked to address the 51 demerits cited in the Aug. 13 failed inspection. GDOE officials stressed that the demerits needed to be reduced to zero.
With the sanitary inspection passed, Borja said, "details on the return back to campus is still in the planning phase. We plan on having stakeholder meetings and input first before we make any final decisions."
Currently, Tiyan High School is being hosted by George Washington High School, while Simon Sanchez High School is being hosted by Okkodo High School. All four schools are on double session schedules.
