The Guam Department of Youth Affairs reported that a 16-year-old male minor escaped from its Youth Correctional Facility in Mangilao on the evening of October 1.
According to initial reports, at 9:00 p.m., the resident was retrieving a mop and mop bucket outside the facility’s Intake office when he fled on foot from the supervising officer. An immediate search was launched within the compound and the surrounding Mangilao area. Additionally, the Guam Police Department was notified, but the minor has not yet been located.
The 16-year-old male minor is CHamoru, 5’4” tall, weighs 148 pounds, and has brown eyes and black hair. The minor was last seen wearing a purple George Washington High School polo uniform shirt, black shorts, and black slippers with a white graphic on the strap. He has a scar and a birthmark on the left side of his abdomen.
The youth has been in DYA’s custody since September 4, 2024, for multiple offenses, including beyond control, burglary, criminal trespass, conspiracy to commit theft of property, theft of property, and criminal mischief. The matter is currently under investigation as the search continues.
The public is advised to contact DYA at 671-735-5022 if they have any information on the whereabouts of the minor.
DYA’s top priorities are the safety and well-being of the community and the youth, the agency said in a media release. DYA and GPD are working to ensure the minor’s safe return to custody.
