UPDATE: 1:13 a.m. ChST, Tuesday, April 14
Super Typhoon Sinlaku continued its west-northwest track toward the Marianas early Tuesday, with bands of heavy showers moving into Saipan, Tinian and Rota while Guam remained in a temporary dry slot, according to a 1:13 a.m. ChST update by the National Weather Service Guam Forecast Office.
The storm turned slightly more northwest over the three hours prior to the advisory. Despite this on Guam, outer bands have already produced wind gusts of up to 54 mph over the island and 61 mph over Saipan in recent hours.
Forecasters warned that as bands closer to the storm’s center move into the islands, winds will increase significantly. Residents are reminded that the current lull in conditions on Guam does not signal the storm has passed or weakened. Destructive winds remain on the way.
Guam remains under a Tropical Storm Warning with sustained winds of 40 to 50 mph and gusts to 65 mph forecast. A Typhoon Watch remains in effect. Rota, Tinian and Saipan are under a Typhoon Warning.
