Super Typhoon Sinlaku was just 165 miles east of Guam as of 5 a.m. Tuesday with maximum sustained winds of 175 mph, still on track to cross near or over Tinian and Saipan as a Category 4 or 5 storm, with peak conditions for Guam expected later today.
Guam remains under a Tropical Storm Warning and Typhoon Watch under COR 1. Residents must stay indoors until COR 4 is declared.
Sustained winds of 40 to 50 mph with gusts to 65 mph and heavy rain are expected through Tuesday night. The closest point of approach is forecast for late Tuesday afternoon, with Tropical Storm-Force conditions persisting through Wednesday night and dangerous seas through Thursday.
Visitor Safety
GVB, the Guam Fire Department, Guam Police Department and the Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association jointly urged visitors to remain inside concrete structures, stay away from windows and follow hotel staff instructions.
Officials warned that water rescue assets are not deployed near coastal areas during peak storm conditions and first responders cannot safely operate during the worst of the storm.
Power outages, limited mobile service and internet disruptions are expected. Charge devices now and use them only when necessary. Do not use candles — flashlights only.
