Search efforts for David Soulik, the 22-year-old swimmer who went missing offshore near the Tanguissan Power Plant have been terminated as of 6 p.m. following an extensive multi-agency operation, authorities announced Friday.
In a joint decision made in coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard and the Guam Fire Department Search and Rescue Command, officials said all recovery operations were suspended effective 1800 hours.
The decision followed what authorities described as exhaustive search operations and careful evaluation of water conditions, tidal data, weather patterns, drift analysis and the total area covered during the operational periods.
Officials did not release additional details about the circumstances surrounding Soulik’s disappearance on February 11, but said the determination was made after assessing the likelihood of further recovery efforts.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences remain with the family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the Guam Fire Department said in a statement.
The department also expressed appreciation to partner agencies that assisted throughout the search operation.
