The Department of Revenue and Taxation (DRT) warned Guam residents of an "imposter" claiming to be a DRT employee contacting local taxpayers through WhatsApp requesting for personal information.
DRT said the imposter is using the phone number 1-938-294-0328 and sending WhatsApp messages trying to get tax and personal information. DRT urged residents to ignore and block these messages reminding the community that the department does not use social media to contact taxpayers, "nor does it have an off island number.
"Generally, taxpayers are issued a notice regarding their taxes through postal mail and asked to initiate contact with DRT. In the event DRT employees contact a taxpayer, communication is conducted using office phone numbers and email addresses," DRT said in a release on Thursday.
To report a scam like this, DRT encouraged residents to email pinadmin@revtax.guam.gov.
