The Department of Public Health and Social Services announced two events this month to support island residents living with hemophilia and von Willebrand Disease. Through the Guam Comprehensive Hemophilia Care Program, patients and families will have access to free specialty healthcare and educational resources on October 17 and 18.
A Bleeding Disorders Clinic will be held Friday, Oct. 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Northern Region Community Health Center. Visiting specialists from the Region IX Western States Regional Hemophilia Network will provide care, including examinations by hematologists, mobility guidance from a physical therapist, and counseling services. The care team also includes a registered nurse and a social worker to support patients and their families.
A Family Community Day Educational Conference will follow on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Pacific Islands Club in Tumon. Hosted in partnership with the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation, the event will offer learning sessions focused on daily care management, physical activity and emotional support for those affected by bleeding disorders.
