The Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) has donated approximately $10,000 worth of new pediatric emergency medical equipment to the Guam Fire Department (GFD) to strengthen emergency response capabilities for children across the island. The donation was made possible through federal funding from the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) grant, which supports improvements in pediatric emergency care.
The equipment includes a variety of specialized tools such as advanced life support (ALS) pediatric kits, LifeVac choking rescue devices, pediatric restraints, glucose meters, CPAP accessories, and cervical collars for both children and adults. These resources are expected to help GFD responders deliver faster, more effective care to infants, children, and adolescents in emergency situations.
“The safety and health of our community’s children is one of our highest priorities,” said GFD Fire Chief Daren Burrier. “These tools directly enhance our ability to provide life-saving care in critical situations, and we thank DPHSS for their ongoing partnership and commitment to public safety.” Acting Health Professional Licensing and EMS Administrator Breanna B.F. Sablan added that the donation marks a significant milestone in the EMSC State Partnership Program’s mission to make every ambulance and emergency room on Guam “pediatric-ready.”
DPHSS officials emphasized that the department remains committed to strengthening Guam’s emergency medical system through continued collaboration with GFD and other community partners. The donation underscores an ongoing effort to ensure that first responders are equipped with the necessary tools and training to deliver the highest standard of care to the island’s youngest and most vulnerable patients.
