The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) said Tuesday it has completed environmental assessments and mosquito-control measures in response to a recently confirmed case of dengue fever on island. Officials reported no additional confirmed cases since the initial detection.
According to DPHSS, pesticide spraying was conducted on Sept. 20 and 21 at one household and two apartment complexes near the residence of the patient, following consent from property owners. The spraying followed an environmental assessment within a 50-meter radius of the confirmed case.
In addition, the Division of Environmental Health (DEH) carried out a broader 100-meter environmental assessment to educate residents about dengue prevention. A total of 36 households were visited, with pamphlets and brochures distributed on mosquito control and protective measures such as eliminating standing water and using repellents.
DPHSS reminded the public that the most effective way to prevent dengue is to avoid mosquito bites and reduce mosquito breeding sites. Residents are encouraged to wear long-sleeved clothing, apply insect repellent, and remove items that can collect water around homes.
