The Guam Power Authority has restored 17% of the island’s system load, with 25 of 30 major substations — 83% — and 25% of feeders and circuits energized as of 3 p.m. Tuesday. Generation capacity stood at 255 megawatts online, supporting a 41 MW load.
GPA stressed that feeders and circuits can be energized only when their substation is energized, and reported 17 feeders and circuits partially energized. “System load percentage increases as GPA feeder, circuits percentage increases,” the utility said.
GPA said engineers and line crews are focused on assessments and restoration of the islandwide power system.
“Initial priorities of our GPA crews include working on transmission lines to energize all substations and address water well issues,” GPA said.
Residents who remain without power “may be on feeders that have not been energized,” according to GPA.
“In some areas, power may be restored to main lines while additional repairs are still needed on transformers, service lines, or customer connections,” GPA said, noting that customers experiencing “isolated damage” may require crews to return after main circuits are restored.
GPA said it is aware of all customer outages through its Advanced Metering Infrastructure.
“These systems allow GPA to confirm where power has been restored, identify customers still without service, and locate smaller outage pockets within villages,” GPA said.
The utility asked customers to limit calls to GPA dispatch to “critical issues,” including downed power lines, blown transformers, low voltage conditions or other safety concerns.
