The Guam Police Department is investigating a fatal auto-motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a 52-year-old man, marking the island’s first traffic fatality of 2026.

Police identified the victim as Sonny Carl Laguana Vasques, the operator of the motorcycle. His next of kin has been notified.

According to preliminary information released by GPD, officers were dispatched at about 5:45 p.m. on Jan. 24 following a report of an injured man at a residence in Dededo. Emergency medical personnel determined Vasques was pulseless and not breathing. He was transported to Guam Regional Medical City, where he was pronounced dead at 9:22 p.m. by Dr. Michael Monson.

The operator of the automobile involved in the crash was interviewed by police, officials said. No further details about the circumstances of the collision were immediately available.

The case remains under investigation.

The Guam Police Department expressed condolences to Vasques’ family and friends.
