The Guam Police Department has identified the officer involved in the July 11 fatal auto-motorcycle crash in Yigo as Police Officer I Jayson H. Nedelec.
GPD released the officer's name after consulting with the Office of the Attorney General. Nedelec has been on administrative leave since the incident.
GPD's Highway Patrol Division continues to investigate the crash, which resulted in the death of motorcycle operator Reuben Frederick Raush, 21.
Raush served in the U.S. Air Force with the 36th Security Forces Squadron. Preliminary information indicates he was traveling northbound on Route 1 near American Grocery at around 2 a.m. when his motorcycle and the GPD patrol vehicle driven by Nedelec collided.
A video widely circulated on social media following the incident depicts the GPD patrol car and the motorcycle, with claims that the patrol vehicle pulled out in front of the motorcycle operator without its lights activated.
GPD's initial July 12 release reported that the patrol vehicle was parked near the entrance of American Grocery and motored onto Route 1 "upon hearing of a disturbance call." The statement did not address whether emergency lights were activated prior to the maneuver. At the time, police told Guam News Network no further information was releasable.
