Lt. Anthony Martinez Jr, a Territorial Park Patrol Supervisor has been arrested and charged on allegations that he assaulted a woman known to him and her son.
The complaint filed with the Superior Court of Guam on July 16 stems from an incident that occurred on July 14 at a residence in Yona. Assistant Attorney General Lucas Wood said Martinez engaged in a verbal argument with the woman which escalated into a physical altercation.
Victim 1 walked towards the living room and Martinez followed. Martinez then grabbed Victim 1 around the neck, from behind using his right arm," the magistrate complaint states.
Though the victim did not report losing consciousness, she did report falling over onto the couch and Martinez "slumped" over her.
"Victim 2 walked into the room and observed Martine on Victim 1. Victim 2 pushed Martinez off Victim 1. Martinez then struck Victim 2 on the right side of his jaw using a closed fist," the complaint states.
Martinez and the minor allegedly "grappled", the complaint states further alleging that he punched the minor in the body "repeatedly."
Victim 1 claimed she placed herself between Martinez and her son, shielding him from being struck.
The minor corroborated the account of the events telling authorities he "struck" Martinez in response to being hit.
Injury checks conducted by the Guam Police Department on the minor recorded a scratch on his right ear, cut on his left-hand and redness around the right side of his rib cage area, chest and abdomen. Victim 1 sustained no visible injuries.
A The complaint states that Martinez waived his Miranda rights before confirming the verbal altercation occurred and alleging that the minor "struck" him first in "mutual combat."
"Martinez fought back after Victim 2 did not stop striking him. Martinez denied hitting or touching Victim 1 during the verbal altercation," the complaint states.
Martinez was charged with two counts of Family Violence as a misdemeanor and misdemeanor Child Abuse.
He was released on a $2,000 personal recognizance bond.
