Guam Police Department officials confirmed that an off-duty police officer was among two men arrested in connection with a bar fight last month in Hagatña. The incident, which occurred around 2 a.m. on Aug. 16, resulted in multiple charges for both men.
According to GPD, Officer Francisco Acaban Rasa Jr. and Kin Cruz Fernandez Jr. were involved in a physical altercation that began as an argument. Rasa allegedly struck Fernandez during the confrontation. Both men were charged with assault (mutual combat), public drunkenness, and disorderly conduct. Detectives interviewed them at the time, but neither wished to file a formal complaint.
On Sept. 15, Rasa voluntarily met with officers at the Central Precinct Command in Barrigada, where he was booked and released. Later that afternoon, Fernandez also met with officers and was similarly booked and released. Police officials noted that Rasa was off-duty when the incident took place.
GPD said the case is now closed, but details have been forwarded to the Guam Attorney General’s Office for review and possible further action. “Their information has been forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office for their information and disposition,” the department stated in a release.
