The Bureau of Statistics and Plans (BSP), in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DoAg), has released new data on locally produced agricultural and fish products purchased by the Government of Guam during Fiscal Year 2025, as required under Public Law 33-93. The report highlights ongoing efforts to promote transparency in government procurement and support local farmers and fishers in meeting the island’s food supply needs.
According to the BSP’s quarterly data, the Guam Department of Education (GDOE) was the largest purchaser of local produce, acquiring cucumbers totaling 14,850 pounds valued at $42,346 throughout the fiscal year. Government House also procured a variety of vegetables and fruits, including lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, bananas, watermelons, and mulberries. Other government agencies such as the Department of Youth Affairs, Department of Public Health and Social Services, Guam Memorial Hospital Authority, and Department of Corrections were included in the reporting but did not record any produce or fish purchases for the year.
While the report noted consistent procurement of locally grown vegetables, it found no recorded purchases of locally caught or produced fish by any government agencies during the reporting period. The data provides a clearer picture of how public institutions contribute to the local agricultural economy, while also identifying opportunities to expand government purchasing of island-grown food products.
