U.S. Naval Base Guam, along with various Navy first responders, will participate in the annual force protection exercise Citadel Protect 2026 from June 1 to 5, the base announced.
The exercise, held in Apra Harbor and other locations on the main base and Polaris Point, is part of the Navy's regular training continuum and focuses on command, control and communications for missions requiring coordinated responses from both shore and afloat units.
The training is designed to enhance the readiness of Navy security forces to respond to threats to installations and units.
Officials emphasized the exercise is not in response to any specific threat but is regularly scheduled. The training will incorporate blank ammunition fire as part of simulated attacks, and residents are advised not to be alarmed by an increased military presence in the Apra Harbor area.
There may be increased patrols, traffic around the base or delays in base access during the exercise. The base's Giant Voice system will also be activated, and residents near the speakers will hear exercise announcements throughout the week.
