The Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program within the Department of Revenue and Taxation has been awarded a grant totaling $855,055 for fiscal years 2026 through 2028 to enhance commercial motor vehicle safety and community education.
"This grant is an incredible opportunity for our program and our community," said MCSAP Administrator Tim Lujan. "With these funds, we can bolster our efforts to ensure that our roads are safer by reducing accidents and improving overall safety standards in the commercial motor vehicle industry."
The program conducts regular inspections of commercial motor vehicles, checking compliance with standards including vehicle maintenance, load securement, driver qualifications and hours-of-service regulations. It also collaborates with federal and local stakeholders and conducts community outreach on safe driving.
Guam's MCSAP team, made up of five inspectors, conducted 511 commercial motor vehicle inspections this year, 90 of which were found in violation of standards and ordered into compliance before returning to the road. The team also conducted 1,678 seatbelt surveys for commercial motor vehicle drivers.
