A 34-year-old man was charged with felony methamphetamine possession and committed to pretrial confinement following a traffic stop in Dededo last week, according to court documents filed Saturday in the Superior Court of Guam.
John James Ngirdengoll was arrested May 22 after Guam Police Department officers stopped a black Ford Focus on Route 28 near the For U Home Mart for missing license plates. Officers observed signs consistent with narcotics intoxication, including dilated pupils, profuse sweating and heavy breathing.
A K-9 unit alerted to the front passenger area, where a subsequent search uncovered a glass pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue, along with heat-sealed straws and zip-lock baggies containing suspected meth. A field test returned a presumptive positive result.
Ngirdengoll allegedly told officers it was his first time using methamphetamine and that he was "tripping out." The container was identified as belonging to him by the vehicle's driver.
He faces one count of Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, a third-degree felony carrying up to five years in prison.
Attorney General Douglas Moylan's office sought pretrial confinement, citing public safety concerns and flight risk. Magistrate Judge Jonathan R. Quan committed Ngirdengoll on $3,000 cash bail May 24.
