A man identified as Nuckman Koninnis appeared in Superior Court on Saturday facing felony charges of escape and promotion of prison contraband.
According to the magistrate report, Koninnis was formally charged under case CF0579-25. Prosecutors are accusing him of unlawfully escaping custody and introducing or attempting to introduce prohibited items into a correctional facility.
The charges stem from an incident on August 15, when Koninnis allegedly climbed over the entry gate and attempted to escape, but was quickly apprehended by Department of Corrections officers. Authorities say a drug test performed on Koninnis was positive and he was found with tobacco, a prohibited item in the facility.
Assistant Attorney General Monty May represented the government during the hearing before Judge Johnathan R. Quan. The prosecution requested confinement, citing the seriousness of the charges.
Koninnis was confined with bail set at $3,000 cash.
