A man has been arrested and charged with destruction of evidence and obstructing government function after police responded to a violent assault reported on Magsaysay Street, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the Guam Attorney General’s Office. The charges stem from an incident on Sept. 12 in which officers found an injured man across from Tropical Gardens.
Guam police said they were on scene at about 5:30 p.m. and directed to a man later identified as the victim who was crouched on the ground with a head wound and apparent injuries to his arm. Medics transported him to Guam Regional Medical City for treatment, according to the affidavit.
A witness told police he saw Winsor Phillip throw the victim to the ground and stomp on his face multiple times before striking him on the head with a piece of wood until it broke. Officers said they found blood on broken wood at the scene where the alleged attack occurred. The affidavit states that another man, Alfred Kenty, the defendant, was seen throwing a bloody piece of wood into a grassy area to hide it from medics.
Kenty was arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of destruction of evidence and obstructing government function under Guam law, the affidavit said.
