A man has been charged with allegations that he broke into a vehicle stealing roughly $500 worth of items from the vehicle including a credit card which was then used in multiple transactions at stores and gas stations in Barrigada.

The charges stem from a reported vehicle break-in that occurred on Aug. 2 along Route 15 by the Pagat Cave trail head. The reporting person said she had returned from hiking the trail to find the passenger-side window of her car shattered and the door left open.

A credit card was reported stolen along with other items. The reporting person told police multiple transactions were made.

"Four transactions were conducted at New Eagles Market, one transaction worth $699.01 conducted at Super Happy Mart, one transaction worth $879 conducted at IP&E Shell gas station and one transaction worth $200 at 76 Circle K in Barrigada. The transactions were worth $1748.01, excluding the four transactions at New Eagles Market," the complaint said.

The complaint states the credit card was used to purchase multiple cellphones and other goods, including cases of corned beef.

"Items purchased by Lujan at Super Happy Mart by stolen bank card was noted to be two 50-pound Jasmine Sunlee Rice which are $38.99 each, one case of butane gas worth $21.99 and four cases of Palm Corned Beef each worth $143.76," the complaint states.

Officers investigating the case spoke with the store owners and obtained surveillance footage which led authorities to identify the suspect as Lujan.

The complaint said employees from the establishments subsequently identified Lujan through a photo line-up.

Authorities tracked down Lujan to a residence in Mangilao on Aug. 23.

Based on the allegations Lujan was charged with:

  • Burglary to a motor vehicle through complicity as a second-degree felony.

  • Theft of property as a second-degree felony

  • Breaking of Window Glass to gain Access to Vehicles as a third-degree felony

  • Criminal Mischief as a third-degree felony

  • Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card as a third-degree felony.

Court records show Lujan was released on his own recognizance.
