A 27-year-old man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he stole vehicles, assaulted an officer, and triggered a school lockdown during a high-speed chase that spanned several villages last month.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, Michael Ray Angelo Guzman is accused of entering homes in Sinajana, stealing property and vehicles from elderly residents, and fleeing from officers during several incidents between Aug. 12 and Sept. 3. Police said Guzman allegedly stole a gold necklace, gardening gloves, and a phone from a 76-year-old woman, then days later drove off with an 85-year-old woman’s Toyota Corolla after offering to help her clean her yard.
On Sept. 3, investigators said Guzman stole a black Toyota Tacoma from a residence where a 76-year-old woman was house-sitting, later taking her phone and keys. That same day, police attempted to stop Guzman in a stolen vehicle, but he fled, a portion of the car chase was captured on an Ordot residence's surveillance footage. According to police Guzman later collided with a marked patrol car in Ordot before escaping on foot onto the campus of Agueda I. Johnston Middle School, prompting a lockdown. Officers later reported Guzman assaulted one of them in a jungle pursuit before being arrested that evening.
Guzman has been charged with multiple counts, including theft of an automobile, burglary, aggravated assault, assault on a peace officer, eluding police, theft of property, and criminal trespass. Prosecutors added special allegations for crimes against vulnerable victims and crimes against the community.
