A 31-year-old man has been charged in connection with an armed robbery targeting Korean tourists in the parking lot of Guam Premium Outlets, according to a court affidavit filed Thursday.
Prosecutors allege Jayboi Elias drove a red Mazda CX5 used in the Feb. 6 robbery, during which two armed men - Jimmy Hadley and Justin Willy approached a vehicle occupied by four visitors from South Korea and an infant child.
According to the affidavit filed by Assistant Attorney General Lucas Wood, the victims had just parked near the entrance to Ross at about 3 p.m. when the Mazda backed into a stall beside them. Hadley allegedly pointed a pistol at the driver and demanded money, taking about $200 from his wallet. Willy approached the opposite side of the vehicle, pointed another firearm inside and demanded valuables.
Authorities said two small bags were taken, along with a Samsung Galaxy cellphone valued at about $1,000, cash and bank cards. The suspects also rummaged through a diaper bag and took cash before fleeing.
Investigators allege Elias remained in the driver’s seat with what was described as a rifle across his lap while the robbery unfolded. The affidavit states he made a threatening gesture toward the victims before driving away toward King’s Restaurant.
Elias was arrested Feb. 11 in Dededo on outstanding warrants. He denied involvement and denied knowledge of the vehicle, according to the affidavit.
He is charged with second-degree robbery by complicity, theft by complicity and two conspiracy counts. Prosecutors also filed a special allegation for vulnerable victim enhancement due to the presence of an infant.
He was held on $100,000 cash bail.
