A man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly stealing a vehicle outside a church in Agana Heights, according to documents filed in the Superior Court of Guam.
An affidavit of probable cause states that on Aug. 23, Guam Police Department officers responded to a theft complaint at the Taitano Apartments in Tamuning. The victim told police his 2025 Hyundai Venue was stolen after he left the keys with a man he had been housing, identified as Derick Evan Hills, while attending services at the Guam Seventh-day Adventist Church. When he returned about an hour later, both the car and Hills were gone.
Police later tracked the vehicle to a makeshift residence in Ramirez Way, where witnesses reported seeing Hills driving the vehicle with another individual. Officers said Hills eventually returned to the area and was taken into custody. The victim was later notified and retrieved his vehicle.
Court records state that Hills was read his rights but refused to sign or provide a statement. He was arrested and charged with theft of an automobile as a second-degree felony.
