A man was arrested Thursday after allegedly striking another driver’s vehicle multiple times with a metal rod in the parking lot of Home Depot in Tamuning, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the Office of the Attorney General.
Police said the incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 21, when a driver reported being cut off by a moped operator while making a turn. Both vehicles entered the parking lot of Home Depot where the moped rider allegedly became aggressive, dismounted, and struck the car several times with a thin metal rod before fleeing the scene. Officers observed damage to the vehicle’s exterior and a fractured window, with an estimated repair cost of $2,000.
Later that day, police said Johnny Shibuya Iglesias voluntarily went to the Tumon Precinct and identified himself as the moped operator. After waiving his rights, Iglesias admitted to being upset after he was cut off by the driver and confirmed that he struck the vehicle with a metal antenna. He was placed under arrest at about 2:50 p.m.
Iglesias has been charged with criminal mischief as a third-degree felony under Guam law. The case is being prosecuted by the Office of the Attorney General.
