A 27-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday after allegedly breaking into his mother’s home in Agat to look for food, despite a stay-away order barring him from the residence, according to a magistrate complaint. Officers from the Agat Precinct Command responded to a reported disturbance on Erskine Drive around 2:40 a.m. and found Adrien Joey Topasna Rivera shirtless at the scene.
Police said Rivera admitted to removing metal shutters from a bathroom window and climbing inside, claiming he believed no one would answer the door at such a late hour. His mother, however, told officers her son was not allowed at the home due to a previous case involving the same residence. She said Rivera had broken the same window in an earlier incident.
Witnesses, including Maria A. Rivera, reported catching Rivera inside a storage room before he moved into the kitchen. When confronted by his mother and sisters, Rivera allegedly became aggressive, prompting his mother to push him out of the house. He was later taken to the precinct for questioning, where he said his only intent was to eat.
Rivera, who has been under pretrial supervision since Aug. 1 in a separate case, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Prosecutors charged him with burglary, a felony, as well as misdemeanor criminal trespass. The affidavit noted that Rivera is also subject to felony-on-felony release restrictions under Guam law.
