A man was arrested after allegedly breaking into his ex-wife’s Barrigada home earlier this month, causing extensive damage and leaving her in fear for her safety, according to a court affidavit.
Reginald Jindawong Lizama was arrested Jan. 26 in connection with a reported home invasion that occurred shortly after midnight on Jan. 9 at a residence in Barrigada, court documents state.
Guam Police Department officers responded at about 12:13 a.m. and met with the woman, who told officers her ex-husband had entered the home while she was asleep on the couch. She told police she woke to a noise and saw him standing in the living room.
When she questioned why he was there, he allegedly replied, “I can come here whenever I want,” followed by an expletive, according to the affidavit. She told him to leave and said she would call police. Investigators said he then went into a bedroom and began tearing the room apart. She told officers she believed he was looking for her current husband.
She called police and placed the phone on speaker, at which point the suspect fled, the affidavit states. Officers reported she appeared visibly shaken, with trembling hands and watery eyes, and had difficulty speaking.
Police observed that exterior accordion shutters had been pried open and that entry appeared to have been made through a missing windowpane that had not yet been replaced from a prior incident. The bedroom was described as being in significant disarray, with items scattered, a mattress pulled off the frame, a partially collapsed bed frame and three fist-sized holes punched into a wooden door.
On Jan. 26, officers encountered Lizama during an unrelated call for service. He agreed to be interviewed and was taken to the Central Precinct Command, where he waived his Miranda rights and admitted entering the residence through a window and that he did not own the home, the affidavit states.
Prosecutors charged Lizama with home invasion as a first-degree felony, burglary as a second-degree felony and criminal mischief as a misdemeanor.
