A 50-year-old man was arrested early Friday morning after allegedly assaulting a woman and another man inside a Tumon shop, according to court documents. Guam Police responded to a report of a woman yelling in front of Acanta Mall at about 2:03 a.m. on Aug. 15, where they met with the woman, who identified the suspect as Godwin Lawrence Quitugua.
The woman told officers she was speaking with a man inside her shop, Treehouse Guam, when Quitugua entered aggressively, shouted at them, and began punching the man. After the man fell to the ground, Quitugua allegedly struck the woman three times and pushed her against a shelf before fleeing in a gray Jeep toward Happy Landing. Officers spotted a gray Jeep in the area and later met with Quitugua, requesting he report to the precinct.
Court records state the woman and Quitugua had been in an on-and-off sexual relationship for about two years, and she believed jealousy triggered the attack. She sustained swelling and bruising but declined hospital treatment after being checked by medical personnel. Police noted the shop was in disarray, though an attempt to review surveillance footage failed due to a system malfunction.
Quitugua was arrested around 4 a.m. and charged with misdemeanor assault and misdemeanor family violence under Guam law. The case remains under investigation.
